Saddles Pall Ring

Saddles (also known as Intalox Saddles) are tower packing elements shaped like a saddle or dish. The “Saddles Pall Ring” combines features of saddle and ring packings: it has saddle-like curves with ring-like openings, offering a very high number of liquid flow points. This hybrid design yields very large surface area and voidage, along with mechanical strength.

Key Features

  • Unique Geometry: Blends saddle and ring shapes, presenting liquid to gas in multiple directions.
  • Very High Voidage: Often above 90%, ensuring low pressure drop even at high flows.
  • Robust Structure: Often with thicker walls or support ribs for column height stability.

Benefits

  • Low HETP (Height Equivalent to Theoretical Plate): Excellent efficiency even at low liquid flow rates.
  • High Turn-Down Capability: Handles wide flow range without loss of performance.
  • Mechanical Strength: Suitable for packed beds under pressure (e.g. vacuum or high-pressure columns).

Applications

  • Vacuum Distillation: Where low pressure drop is critical.
  • High-Pressure Absorption: Petrochemical or gas treatment columns under pressure.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Usually pressed metal or molded ceramic/PP.
  • Voidage & Surface: Example from MTPI: very large transfer points with very high voidage.

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Versatile Performance: Works effectively in applications demanding both low and high gas flows due to its hybrid design.
