Key Features
- Corrosion-resistant FRP construction (vinyl ester or epoxy resins) protects against acidic gases.
- Lightweight but high-strength design extends equipment life.
- Smooth interior finish for efficient gas/liquid contact.
- Large diameters and heights available for high-capacity scrubbers.
- Customizable internals (packing, trays, spray headers) and external components (ladders, platforms).
Benefits
- Long Service Life: FRP resists chemical attack, abrasion and extreme temperatures, yielding decades of operation.
- Low Maintenance: Inherent corrosion resistance means far less inspection, coating or repair than steel. Smooth surfaces also reduce fouling.
- High Efficiency: Optimized spray distribution and packing ensure thorough SO₂ removal. FRP’s stability allows tighter design tolerances.
- Cost-Effective: Lower installation weight and no need for expensive exotic alloys make FRP scrubbers more economical over their lifetime.
Applications
FRP scrubbers are widely used in coal-fired and biomass power plants, chemical and petrochemical facilities, waste incinerators and cement plants to control emissions. They remove sulfur oxides (SOx), NOx and particulate matter from flue gas. These scrubbers serve both wet (limestone or lime slurry) and semi-dry FGD processes, often in combination with mist eliminators and absorbers.
Technical Specifications
- Materials: Fiberglass-reinforced vinyl ester, epoxy or dual-laminate (e.g. PP-lined FRP) for severe service.
- Sizes: Diameters up to 10+ meters and heights up to 30+ meters (field-fabricated on site).
- Pressure Drop: Engineered per process needs (typically low pressure drop for packed tower designs).
- Certifications: Can be designed to ASME standards (sections XII/X and others) for pressure containment.
Unique Selling Points
Our FRP scrubbers are tailor-made for each plant. We offer complete FRP systems including custom spray headers, fans, ducting and platforms. Advanced laminate schedules (e.g. dual color laminates with corrosion barriers) and engineering (smooth-turn joints, reinforced flanges) ensure superior performance. Our experience with some of the world’s largest FRP scrubbers (10m dia × 34m high) means our designs are field-proven.
