FGD Scrubbers

FRP FGD scrubbers (also called absorbers) are tall, vertical towers where flue gas contacts a scrubbing liquid (e.g. limestone slurry) to remove SO₂ and other pollutants. Built from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, these scrubbers combine high strength with corrosion resistance. The smooth, non-metallic interior of FRP scrubbers enhances flow and minimizes clogging. These scrubbers can be custom-engineered in a wide range of diameters and heights to meet specific plant requirements. Compared to steel units, FRP scrubbers are much lighter and can be fabricated in one piece, simplifying installation and reducing foundation loads. Their design often includes integrated FRP internals (e.g. spray banks, mist eliminators) and external FRP supports for a complete corrosion-free solution.

Applications

FRP scrubbers are widely used in coal-fired and biomass power plants, chemical and petrochemical facilities, waste incinerators and cement plants to control emissions. They remove sulfur oxides (SOx), NOx and particulate matter from flue gas. These scrubbers serve both wet (limestone or lime slurry) and semi-dry FGD processes, often in combination with mist eliminators and absorbers.
