Heilix

The Heilix (or Helix) ring is a proprietary packing shape characterized by a spiral, spiral-like, or wave geometry. It provides a unique helical flow path, which increases contact points for fluid phases. Like other packings, Heilix elements are made of plastic (PP) or metal, and designed for high-efficiency mass transfer.

Key Features

  • Spiral Structure: Creates a uniform helical liquid film for efficient gas-liquid contact.
  • High Surface Area: Comparable to Pall Rings but often with even distribution patterns.
  • High Voidage: Typical values ~94–96% for 50–100 mm sizes.

Benefits

  • Excellent Efficiency: Spiral design enhances mixing with minimal resistance.
  • Stable Performance: Firm interlocking prevents shifting under flow.

Applications

  • Distillation/Absorption: Used where high throughput and efficiency are needed in limited column space.
  • Heat and Mass Transfer Equipment: Wherever other random packings are used, Heilix can be an alternative.

Technical Specifications

  • Sizes: E.g. 50–100 mm diameters, as in [76].
  • Surface Area & Voidage: 50 mm size – 100 m²/m³, ~94% void.

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Proprietary Design: Less common, may offer performance advantages in niche processes.
  • Low Pressure Drop: Helical paths support smooth flow even at high capacity.
