Wide Flanged Beams

Wide-flange FRP beams (often called W-beams) are essentially extra-large I- or H-beams with very broad flanges. Their design maximizes strength and stiffness for minimal depth. Composed of pultruded composite, they outperform wood or steel in corrosion-prone settings.

Key Features

  • Very high section modulus (wide flanges boost bending strength)
  • Continues to be light and corrosion-resistant (fiberglass + resin)
  • Fully dielectric (no electrical conductivity)

Benefits

  • Allows long spans or heavy loads without intermediate supports
  • Great for flooring or bridge decks where wide support beams are needed
  • No heavy welding or bolting (the continuous pultrusion creates seamless beams)

Applications

  • Bridge deck supports, wide gantry crane rails
  • Main structural members in large walkover decks or catwalks
  • Frames of pultruded modular buildings (architectural beams)

Technical Specifications

  • Flange widths from 150 to 400 mm common, web depths 50–150 mm
  • UL94 V-0 fire-retardant versions available with special resin

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Combines a steel-like profile with composite advantages (light, maintenance-free)
  • Engineered to meet or exceed ASTM and CEI building codes for composite beams
