Hat Channels

FRP hat channels (also called top-hat or furring channels) are lightweight, hat-shaped profiles designed for lining, furring or securing panels and insulation. They offer the same composite advantages: high stiffness with minimal weight, and complete corrosion immunity. FRP hat channels are often used to level surfaces or provide a thermal break in wall and ceiling systems.

Key Features

  • High flexural stiffness (hat shape resists bending loads across the flange)
  • Corrosion and fire-resistant construction (fiberglass veil and resin)
  • Non-conductive (prevents thermal bridging in insulated walls)

Benefits

  • Non-corrosive mounting rails (outperform galvanized steel in humid/salty environments)
  • Adds structural support without significant weight (ideal for suspended ceilings or cladding)
  • Acts as a moisture barrier (fiberglass does not absorb water)

Applications

  • Furring strips for exterior or interior wall cladding (EIFS, curtain walls)
  • Support rails for ceiling panels or roof underlayment
  • Fastening rails for insulation boards or drywall in corrosive/cleanroom settings
  • Mounting channels in HVAC ducts and enclosures (non-sparking)

Technical Specifications

  • Customizable geometry (flange width, height and thickness as needed)
  • Standard lengths up to 6m (or longer on request)
  • Typical weight ~0.5–2 kg/m, depending on size

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Reduces galvanic corrosion (no metal-metal contact issues)
  • Minimal maintenance (does not need repainting in aggressive environments)
