Double Web Beams

Double-web FRP beams consist of two parallel webs and multiple flanges, giving an extra-stiff girder profile (akin to two I-beams joined). These pultruded sections are used in very large span constructions. They provide extremely high torsional and bending stiffness, while still offering FRP’s corrosion-free performance.

Key Features

  • Extra rigid (two webs resist twisting better than single-web beams)
  • All-fiberglass, insulating structure (no galvanic issues)

Benefits

  • Superb for very long spans or heavy loads (e.g. aerospace platform support)
  • Low-vibration, high-durability beams (fiberglass is damping)

Applications

  • Footbridges and pedestrian overpasses
  • Heavy equipment runways or aerospace test stands
  • Stiffeners in large composite panel assemblies (e.g. ship decks)

Technical Specifications

  • Width up to 400–500 mm, depth up to 200 mm, with paired flanges
  • Weight varies by configuration (custom-fabricated sections)

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Engineered solution for maximum stiffness (no metallic analog)
  • Simplifies installation of wide floors (fewer supports needed)
