Nylon Lock Pins

Nylon lock pins (also called snap-in or push-to-lock fastener pins) are plastic fastening components designed for rapid assembly. Typically molded from Nylon 6/6, these pins have pronged shanks that expand and lock when pushed through a panel hole. They provide a secure hold without screws or tools. Nylon’s natural properties (chemical/heat resistance and electrical insulation) make these pins suitable for electronics and automotive assembly. For instance, in PCB manufacturing they can pre-fix components before soldering, as nylon withstands the heat of wave soldering.

Key Features

  • Snap-Lock Design: Serrated, flexible legs create a strong one-way lock when inserted, preventing pull-out.
  • Nylon 6/6 Construction: Excellent heat tolerance (often UL94 V2 or better) and chemical durability.
  • Easy Installation: Simply push into pre-drilled holes; no tools or threads needed.
  • Variety of Sizes: Available in diameters 3–6 mm (or more) and lengths to fit thin or thick panels.
  • Non-Conductive: Electrically insulating material suits electronic enclosures and appliances.

Benefits

  • Fast Assembly: Reduces labor time since no nuts or screws are required; ideal for high-volume production.
  • Vibration Resistant: Holds securely without loosening under vibration (unlike some nuts/bolts).
  • Corrosion-Free: Nylon won’t rust; suitable for outdoor or moist environments.
  • Lightweight: Reduces part count weight – helpful in automotive or aerospace applications.

Applications

  • Electronics Manufacturing: Fixing PCBs, connectors, and wiring harnesses inside plastic housings.
  • Automotive Interiors: Securing trim panels, door panels, and instrument clusters without metal hardware.
  • Appliance Assembly: Mounting control panels, brackets, and components in washers, refrigerators, etc.
  • Furniture & Fixtures: Joining metal frames or panels in cabinets, racks – covers thread holes.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Nylon 6/6 or 6 (often natural or black dyed). Typical UL94 V2 heat rating.
  • Hole Size: Designed for tight-fit holes (e.g. a 5.1 mm head pin for ~5.0 mm hole).
  • Temperature: –40°C to +105°C operating range (nylon).
  • Standards: Some suppliers follow ISO 4759 tolerances for pins.

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Heat-Resistant Fastening: Can be used near hot components or processes without melting.
  • Tool-Free Application: Lowers assembly and maintenance costs by eliminating screws and threading.
  • Self-Locking: Ensures a permanent, vibration-proof bond unless intentionally removed.
