FRP Weir Plates

FRP Weir Plates are corrosion-resistant overflow plates installed around the perimeter of sedimentation basins and clarifiers to provide precise control of effluent water levels. These prefabricated panels or plate segments, made of pultruded or molded fiberglass composite, replace brittle concrete or rust-prone steel weirs. Their key role is to create an even hydraulic weir for accurate flow measurement and to prevent short-circuiting of water around the tank edges. The FRP material (typically polyester or vinyl ester) is highly impervious to sewage chemicals and UV light. Weirs are supplied in various standard profiles (straight edge, V-notch, multiple notches, circular) and custom sizes to meet the required weir length and discharge capacity. FRP weirs are often mounted with stainless steel or FRP supports and washers to maintain a tight seal and correct elevation. Their lightweight nature simplifies replacement or retrofitting in existing clarifiers.

Key Features

  • Chemical & UV Resistant: Weir panels made with high-quality FRP resins provide outstanding durability in submerged conditions.
  • Precision Machined Profiles: Weirs are fabricated via pultrusion using precision dies, ensuring uniform cross-sections and exact notch dimensions for consistent flow.
  • Long-Length Panels: Available in long continuous lengths (e.g. 6–12 m) to reduce the number of joints and associated leaks.
  • Stainless Hardware & Supports: Complete weir kits include SS anchors, washers and brackets to prevent galvanic corrosion and secure the weir in place.
  • AWWA/NSF Compliant: Conform to water industry standards (AWWA C950/C501, NSF-61), making them suitable even for potable water clarification.
  • Optional Covers: Open-channel weirs can be paired with FRP covers to block sunlight and debris (preventing algae and odors).

Benefits

  • Uniform Effluent Flow: Consistent crest height across the clarifier perimeter ensures even sludge blanket levels and optimal solids removal.
  • Maintenance-Free Operation: No painting or repair needed; resistant to chips or surface degradation, providing years of trouble-free service.
  • Reduced Leakage: Fewer splices means fewer potential leak paths. Long panels and precision fit eliminate water bypass behind the weir.
  • Lightweight Handling: A single technician can often carry a weir panel; easy to swap out or expand without cranes.
  • Cost Savings: Lower fabrication and replacement costs than stainless steel; no need for periodic lining or replacement due to corrosion.

Applications

  • Clarifier Tanks: Primary and secondary clarifiers in wastewater treatment plants and water treatment facilities.
  • Settling Basins: Effluent control weirs in any sedimentation or decantation process.
  • Filters and Flocculation Basins: Weirs on flocculators or distribution channels needing even flow.
  • Skimming Tanks: Square or circular clarifiers used for scum removal; weirs define the skimming water line.
  • Retrofits: Upgrading existing concrete or steel weir installations to FRP for long-term performance improvement.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Pultruded fiberglass panels with ≥65% glass content by weight; isophthalic polyester or vinylester resin.
  • Thickness: Standard panel thickness 3–8 mm depending on span and support spacing.
  • Configurations:
    • Straight/Louvered Weirs: Continuous straight edge with or without small perforations.
    • V-Notch Weirs: Single or multiple V-shaped notches (usually 60° or 90°) for controlled flow per unit length.
    • Circular Weirs: Radial or full-circumference designs for round tanks.
  • Mounting: Panels can be mounted in FRP or concrete walls using through-bolts and adjustable brackets; hydraulic seal gaskets recommended at joints.
  • Compliance: Fabricated to meet AWWA C950 (fiberglass effluent weirs) and ANSI/AWWA standards; NSF-61 rating optional.

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Single-Source Fabrication: We design, mold and fabricate the weir panels and all accessories (connectors, washers, brackets) in-house, ensuring perfect fit and finish.
  • Extended Panels: We manufacture weir panels longer than most competitors (up to 12 m), minimizing seams.
  • Performance Guarantees: Flow testing of weir kits for accuracy is available; we guarantee capacity and C-factor performance.
  • Adaptable Design: Quick-change weir systems (e.g. clip-in panels) for future modifications or cleaning without full tank shutdown.
  • Full Clarifier Solution: We offer bundled solutions (launders, weirs, baffles, covers) engineered together, optimizing system performance and simplifying procurement.
