FRP Ducting for FGD

FRP ducting carries flue gases or exhaust fumes between equipment (e.g. from boiler to absorber, or absorber to stack) in FGD setups. FRP ducts are corrosion-proof conduits that resist acidic gas streams. They can be cylindrical (round) or rectangular in cross-section, and may be pure FRP or composite (FRP with a polypropylene or PVC lining). FRP duct systems are specially designed for the large cross-sections needed in utility flue gas handling.

Key Features

  • Custom Shapes: Cylindrical or rectangular ducts with smooth interior. Can include welded seams for field assembly.
  • Material Options: FRP/GRP construction, or lined with PP, PPH, PVDF, etc., for highly corrosive gases.
  • Reinforced Design: Laminates engineered for wind, vacuum, or internal pressure as required.
  • Accessories: FRP access doors, flange ends, transition cones to connect to metal ducts or equipment.

Benefits

  • Corrosion Immunity: Unlike steel ducts, FRP will not rust or corrode under acid gas or flue gas conditions.
  • Weight Savings: Much lighter than steel or concrete ducts, reducing structural supports.
  • Smooth Flow: The non-stick FRP surface avoids soot/scale buildup. Lowers pressure drop and fan power requirements.

Applications

FRP ducting is used for scrubber inlet and outlet gas lines, stack liners, bypass ducts, and clean gas transfer. It’s ideal for any Flue Gas Desulfurization application where sulfuric/sulfurous gases are present. FRP is also used in inlet ducts carrying moisture-laden gas (e.g. from pre-scrubbing processes). Custom rectangular FRP ducts provide space-efficient routing when building height is limited.

Technical Specifications

  • Sizes: Any cross-section up to 20m span (field-fabricated); length as needed.
  • Pressure Class: Generally low (positive pressure FGD gas is ~< 5″ w.g.), but vacuum-rated designs available.
  • Fire Rating: Optional fire-retardant resins for building codes.

Unique Selling Points

We deliver FRP duct systems engineered to FGD specifications. For example, we supply PP/FRP dual-laminate ducts that resist flue gas condensation corrosion. Our ducts include reinforcing ribs and stiffeners for stability. Sushar FRP notes that such ducts are “good corrosion resistant, lightweight and high strength” solutions.
