FRP Baffle Walls

FRP baffle wall systems are panel-based flow-control structures used in basins and clarifiers. Made from fiberglass-reinforced panels and framing, these walls direct water through a prescribed path to improve treatment efficiency. AquaSpan™ FRP baffle walls (for example) are NSF/ANSI-61 certified for potable water use. They create partitions or channels that increase residence time, promote mixing, or prevent short-circuiting in tanks. FRP baffle walls deliver the strength of steel with none of the corrosion issues.

Key Features

  • Certified FRP Panels: High-strength, corrosion-resistant fiberglass panels with NSF-61 approval.
  • Modular Assembly: Pre-engineered sections (solid or perforated) that bolt together on-site.
  • Custom Sizes: Panels span up to 20 ft between supports and up to 42 ft high.
  • Light Weight: 10× lighter than equivalent concrete baffles, easing installation.
  • Optional Accessories: Access doors, adjustable slides, or view-ports can be integrated.

Benefits

  • Design Flexibility: Can be solid for full hydraulic blockage or perforated to tailor flow patterns.
  • Corrosion-Free: Ideal for municipal or industrial water; won’t rust or leach substances.
  • Quick Installation: Prefabricated components reduce site labor and downtime.
  • Structural Strength: Engineered to remain rigid under flow forces; spans large distances without support.
  • Cost Savings: Long life and lower weight lead to reduced life-cycle cost compared to concrete.

Applications

  • Water Treatment: Flocculation basins (baffling flow through mixer zones).
  • Wastewater Treatment: Sedimentation basins and clarifiers (flow distribution walls).
  • Chlorine Contact: Extended contact channels for disinfection in water plants.
  • Clearwell Tanks: Partitioning to prevent short-circuiting in storage basins.
  • Mixing Basins: Anoxic/oxic zone separation in activated sludge tanks.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Pultruded FRP panels and angles; resin type varies by application (often vinylester).
  • Panel Thickness: Typically 1–2 inches with internal stiffening ribs.
  • Span & Height: Design spans up to 20 ft (6 m); heights up to 42 ft (13 m).
  • Mounting: Stainless-steel anchors and hardware; all components compatible with NSF-61 contact.

Unique Selling Points

  • Light and Strong: Only 10% of the weight of concrete, enabling large structures with simpler foundations.
  • Prefabricated Quality: Factory-built panels ensure consistent performance and tight seals.
  • Customizable: Can be cut or combined in the field to fit any basin geometry.
  • Long Span Capability: FRP can span twice the distance of concrete without cracking.
  • Comprehensive Solutions: FRP baffle walls complement FRP launders/weirs for a fully integrated clarifier system (all NSF approved).
