Telecom Poles

Composite telecom poles (FRP poles) provide a modern alternative to wood or steel utility poles. These tubular poles are lightweight and modular for easy transport and installation. Wagners notes that FRP utility poles are inert (resistant to rot, rust and corrosion) and have a design life of ~80 years. Because they do not conduct electricity, they eliminate shock hazards and do not require grounding.

Key Features

  • 80+ year service life (durable fiberglass construction)
  • Fire resistant and termite-proof construction
  • Light weight (up to 50% lighter than wood/steel), plus UV-stable finish

Benefits

  • Lower installation cost (pole sections assemble with bolts rather than heavy crane lifts)
  • No splintering or corrosion (no maintenance painting as with wood or steel)
  • Non-leaching and non-toxic (safe around sensitive environments)

Applications

  • Utility poles for electrical or telecom lines (insulating and strong)
  • Lighting poles (streetlights, stadiums – no ground corrosion)
  • Signage poles and mooring piles (inert composite resists bio-fouling)

Technical Specifications

  • Pole heights 6–18 m typical, wall thickness ~10–15 mm
  • Can be custom flared or guyed sections for high wind loads

Unique Selling Points (USPs)

  • Superior ROI (long lifespan, minimal inspection/replacement costs)
  • Environmentally friendly (lower embedded carbon vs. steel)
